Local SEO for Surf Coast
& Geelong businesses.
Get found the moment someone nearby searches for what you do — in the map pack and in the regular results.
When someone in Torquay searches "plumber near me", Google shows two things above everything else: a map with three business listings, then the regular blue links. Local SEO is the work of getting you into both.
Those two results are won differently, which is why local SEO isn't just regular SEO with a suburb name added. The map pack is driven overwhelmingly by your Google Business Profile, how close you are to the person searching, and your reviews. The regular results are won with on-page optimisation, genuinely useful content and consistent business information across the web.
What the setup covers
The one-time setup fixes the foundations. Most businesses have never had these done properly, and several of them are the reason a site sits invisible despite looking fine.
- Full technical and on-page audit of your existing site
- Keyword research grounded in what people near you actually search
- Page titles, meta descriptions and heading structure rewritten to target them
- Google Business Profile claim, verification and full optimisation
- Local citation building — consistent name, address and phone across directories
- LocalBusiness structured data so search engines can read your details unambiguously
- Google Search Console and Google Analytics configured and verified
What ongoing management covers
Rankings aren't a one-time achievement — competitors work on theirs too, and Google changes what it rewards. Monthly management keeps the work going.
- Rank tracking for your target keywords, reported honestly
- Google Business Profile posts, photos and review responses
- New location or service pages as the business grows
- Technical monitoring — broken links, crawl errors, Core Web Vitals
- Competitor monitoring so you know when someone overtakes you
- A monthly report from Google's own data, not a reskinned dashboard
Why NAP consistency matters more than it sounds
Your name, address and phone number — NAP — need to be identical everywhere they appear online. "Unit 4/12 Baines Cres" in one directory and "4/12 Baines Crescent" in another looks trivial to a human and reads as two different businesses to a search engine, which dilutes the signal that either one is real. Cleaning this up is unglamorous and frequently produces the fastest visible improvement.
An honest caveat. Local SEO isn't right for everyone. If your Google Business Profile is already strong, you have steady reviews, and you rank for your main services, a monthly retainer probably isn't your best use of money. I'll audit it and tell you that rather than sell you one.
Realistic timeline
- Weeks 1–2: audit and setup
- Month 1: profile and citations live
- Months 1–3: map pack movement
- Months 3–6: organic results movement
- Ongoing: content and monitoring
- Monthly reporting throughout
FAQ
Local SEO questions
Expect movement in the map pack within one to three months, and meaningful movement in the regular results closer to three to six. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting searches nobody makes or is about to do something that gets your site penalised. Local search moves faster than national SEO, but it still isn't instant.
Local SEO targets searches with geographic intent — "plumber near me", "cafe Torquay" — and its main prize is the map pack, the three business listings with the map above the normal results. Those rankings are driven heavily by your Google Business Profile, proximity to the searcher, and reviews. Regular SEO targets non-geographic searches and is won mostly through content and links.
No, and neither can anyone else. Google's results are personalised by the searcher's exact location, their history and their device, so there isn't one fixed "first place" to guarantee. What I can commit to is doing the things that reliably improve rankings and showing you the tracked data each month so you can see whether it's working.
Possibly not. If your Google Business Profile is well set up, you have steady reviews and you already rank for your main services, your money may be better spent elsewhere. I'll audit it and tell you honestly — I'd rather turn down work than sell you a retainer you don't need.
A monthly report covering tracked keyword positions, Google Business Profile views, direction requests and calls, plus organic traffic from Search Console. Real numbers from Google's own tools, not a vanity dashboard.
